9 Cong MLAs take oath as Cabinet Ministers in C’garh

The strength of Baghel’s Government has gone up to 12

Nine Congress Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs), including a woman legislator, were sworn in as Cabinet Ministers in Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel-led Congress Government on Tuesday. Governor Anandiben Patel administered oath to Saja MLA Ravindra Choubey, Pratappur MLA Dr Premsai Singh Tekam, Kawardha MLA Mohammad Akbar, Konta MLA Kawasi Lakhma, Arang MLA Dr Shiv Kumar Dahariya, Dondilohara MLA Anila Bhendia, Korba MLA Jaisingh Agrawal, Ahiwara MLA Guru Rudra Kumar and Kharsia MLA Umesh Patel as Cabinet Ministers during a swearing-in ceremony held at Police Parade Ground here on Tuesday.


All the nine Ministers took oath in Hindi.
Three tribal MLAs Dr Premsai Singh Tekam, Kawasi Lakhma, Anila Bhendia, two MLAs from Scheduled Castes Dr Shiv Kumar Dahariya, Guru Rudra Kumar and one MLA from minority community Mohammad Akbar got berth in the Ministry. Now the strength of the new Congress Government has gone up to 12. Only one Cabinet Minister place remains vacant in Baghel Government. The Chhattisgarh Cabinet can have a maximum of 13 Ministers including the Chief Minister. Chief Minister Baghel conducted the first expansion of his Cabinet by inducting nine MLAs as ministers.


Earlier, two other Congress legislators – Ambikapur MLA T S Singhdeo and Durg Rural MLA Tamradhwaj Sahu had sworn in Cabinet Ministers on December 17. The new Cabinet Ministers included the lone Muslim face inducted into the Cabinet four-time MLA Mohammad Akbar, former Leader of Opposition Ravindra Choubey, three time Korba MLA Jaisingh Agrawal and two-time Kharsia MLA Umesh Patel, who is the son of late Nandkumar Patel.
Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CPCC) Working President Dr Shiv Kumar Dahariya and Ahiwara MLA Guru Rudra Kumar, belonging to the Scheduled Castes, were also sworn in as Cabinet ministers.
