The Hitavada State Bureau,

Intense cold wave engulfed Chhattisgarh as the mercury took a nosedive across many regions, sending the temperature down with the lowest of 1.2 degree Celsius recorded at Balrampur, closely followed by Mainpat at 1.6 degree Celsius.
Temperature in Chhattisgarh has begun sliding with the weakening of western disturbance and cyclone turns ineffective. Cold & dry Himalayan breezes are compelling people to stay in the winter wears even during the day time. Mainpat, which is also known as Shimla of Chhattisgarh, recorded a minimum of 1.6 degree Celsius whereas Balrampur is shivering at 1.2 degree.

Temperature Mainpur region of Gariaband district has plunged below the 3 degree Celsius. If mercury goes down further, crops could take severe damage due to the frosting.

Cold waves turn the town into a deserted place by the nightfall and even the police patrolling becomes difficult. Considering these problems, Surajpur Superintendent of Police (SP) GS Jaiswal has directed Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) and Chief Municipal Council Officer Surajpur make arrangements for bonfires at main streets and squares such as Agrasen Chowk, Bus Stand, Subhash Chowk, Manpur Chauhara, Treasury office, bypass ahead of Collectorate, Mahgawa Chowk, Mahuapara and Kaluwa Chowk etc.

Even for the Capital city, December is turning out to be coldest and driest month of the year. Average minimum temperature of Raipur is 12.6 degree Celsius. Clear sky does provide some relief in the sun, but the shady places are still biting cold. Average temperature during day time has remained 27.9 degree Celsius whereas it hovered around 9.0 to 13 degree Celsius in the night. Western disturbance low pressure area, which moves from West to East and which cause winter rain in Northern region, blowing dry cold winds creates a condition of cold wave in Central and Northern part of the nation.

The Maximum temperature recorded in December was on December 2, 2015 at 34.1 degree Celsius whereas the minimum temperature was recorded at 3.9 degree on December 29, 1902 and monthly rain of 73.0 mm in 2010 and 64.1 mm rainfall was registered on December 9, 2010 within 24 hours.
