Report on complaints regarding EVMs sent to EC: Kanta Rao

In the wake of alleged complaints regarding EVMs, Chief Electoral Officer V L Kanta Rao said that report was sought from at least two to three districts and same has been forwarded to the Election Commission of India. Meanwhile, the Election Commission also took cognizance of purported video of Rewa Collector Preeti Maithil in which she is allegedly heard directing to shot down anyone who tries to go near the strong room. Addressing the press conference, V L Kanta Rao stated that various arrangements have been made at strong rooms for the stay of candidates. The place where there is difficulty in having direct vision of strong rooms, CCTV and LED arrangements have been made.

Report has been sought from two to three districts from where complaints regarding EVMs were coming and same has been forwarded to Election Commission. Moreover, he told that in one or two districts, unused and reserved EVMs reached to strong room by one of two day late. These machines were earlier kept at the police station or were in vehicle of sector officer. In this case also protocol has been followed. Talking about arrangements being done for vote counting day, he said that except returning officers, no other would be allowed to take mobile along with them till counting place.

The total cost of seizure done since the model code of conduct coming to effect stands around Rs 70 crore. Of this, cash seizure is around Rs 30 crore. The other seized material includes gold and silver ornaments, illicit liquor etc. When asked that one video of Rewa Collector Preeti Maithil has gone viral in which she is heart to shot down anyone who tries to go near strong room, he told that video in this regard has been sought and will be forwarded to Election Commission.
