CJI releases book ‘Architecture of Justice’

The coffee table book by city’s Vinay and Amogh Thakur is mesmerising, captures architectural marvel of Apex Court, HC buildings


A statement coffee table book – ‘Architecture of Justice’ – authored by father-son duo from Nagpur Adv Vinay Thakur and Amogh Thakur, was officially released by the Chief Justice of India Justice Ranjan Gogoi and senior judge Justice Sharad Bobde at the India International Center in the presence of many legal luminaries and dignitaries.


This book, is a one of its kind, and never before seen photographic rendition of the Supreme Court of India, the 24 High Courts and its 12 benches. It is city-based photographer and former Lawyer Vinay Thakur’s life time achievement. Vinay Thakur was assisted by his wife Adv Anjali Thakur and son Amogh in this tough task which has shown court room buildings in all their grandeur.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also appreciated this effort of showcasing the architectural beauty of the court buildings, which are an integral part of our Judicial system.
The evening of the launch unfolded with addresses from the esteemed panel. The Chief Justice of India, Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Ravindra Bhat, Judge Delhi High Court spoke about the book in high regard. Justice Sharad Bobde, whose vision lay the foundation for this book, spoke about the author’s dedication and commitment to such a massive feat.


Justice Bobde said “A book dedicated to the images of court building architecture is a rarity. They are rarely on tourist
maps. This book contains unexcelled images of courts which are enduring symbols of the guarantee of justice under the Constitution.


The 223 pages of this coffee table book, are mesmerising. The authors have included 20 panoramic shots, that show off the court buildings in all their glory. It also includes some stories and facts that make for an interesting read for architects, designers, photographers and the common man.
Vinay Thakur says “ Our court structures are a classic piece of history from India’s pre-Independence days, and tell us stories of rulers and Kingdoms and their outlook to art and architecture. I want readers to rejoice this aspect of history from India and her glorious past.


Amogh Thakur, who is an International Award winner states “Through this book, I want to take readers into the depths of these court buildings, telling them never heard before stories, and bringing alive a side of the judicial system that has been hidden for so long”.
This book has been recognised by people from the legal and non-legal world alike. It has been lauded by eminent lawyer Harish Salve, ICC Chairman Adv. Shashank Manohar and world renowned Indian Astro Physist Dr. Jayant Naralikar to name a few.


The event was attended by a full roster of judges and lawyers and was concluded by a vote of thanks by co-author Amogh Thakur.
