Chhattisgarh Pragatisheel Kisaan Sangathan (CGPKS) has alleged that following non-availability of re-cycled supply of gunny bags and inadequate transport facilities at the paddy purchase centres has hit paddy procurement in State. This is worrying farmers as their produce is lying in mandis fearing of unseasonal rains in State.

According to CGPKS national convener Rajkumar Gupta, who recently visited procurement centers in Rajnandgaon, said that paddy produce lying at the centers are dry and within prescribed moisture limits. But produce is not procured soon, it can get damaged in rain. He added that at present there is 25 per cent shortfall of re-cycled gunny bags and paddy arrival is to increase sharply in the coming few days in State.

Gupta said that farmers are complaining for falling short of gunny bags. “We have been told that the gunny bags are expected to arrive from other states in the coming few days. Chhattisgarh is one the largest state as purchaser of jute bags every rabi and kharif seasons. The farmers have complaint that they are forced to pay bribe to officials to get the gunny bags at the procurement centers,” added Gupta.
