Staff Reporter,

In connection with the mysterious death of tigress in Ratapani forest circle of Obaidullaganj division, investigating officials of Forest Department have picked up two villagers on the basis of suspicion and their interrogation is under way. Meanwhile, autopsy report of tigress is still awaited to know actual reason of death.

It was on December 4 when patrolling guards of Forest Department found the carcass of tigress of around 5 years old in jungle near Lulka village. All senior officers of Obaidullaganj range reached the spot along with STF and took stock of the situation. Specially trained dogs were also called from Indore.
“On the basis of sniffer dogs, we have picked up two villagers from Lulka village on Wednesday and they are being grilled in connection with mysterious death of tigress. Meanwhile, carcass of feline was sent for autopsy and report is awaited in this regard. As tigress body did not have any obvious wound hence there is no possibility of territorial fight with another tiger and no bullet wound have been found as well. But we mostly see every tiger death case from poaching angle.

The autopsy report would reveal the actual death cause,” informed DFO of Obaidullganj division, Arvind Pratap Singh to ‘The Hitavada’.

He added that two front paws of tigress were found chopped off. However, it could be also possible that after finding the tigress dead, someone chopped off its two front paws. Whatever may be the reason behind incident, investigation is underway to reach till any conclusion. Sources said that sometime villagers cut the paws of feline as part of witchcraft practice. Nonetheless, tigress death has come at a time when Madhya Pradesh is looking forward to claim the top tiger census state title. It is a huge blow as far as tiger conservation efforts are concerned.
