Major cricket betting racket busted in Raipur

It was a huge seize by Raipur Police when they busted a gang involved in cricket betting and seized 2.64 crores in cash. This was perhaps the biggest satta haul by Raipur police in the recent times. One of the two accused persons has been identified as Mohd. Asif, 35, was arrested from RDA Plant, Sanjay Nagar, Tikrapara and the other is an agent Yogesh Agrawal, 40, resident of Station Road, Raipur. Other accused are Mohsin, brother of the accused Asif and Mohit Panjwani alias Monu, 20, resident of Pachpedi Naka. The accused Asif runs a cloth shop Western Wild on Malviya Road. One of the accused is absconding.

From the accused Asif, the police seized more than Rs 2.64 crores in cash, 4 mobile phones, details of Satta and accounts regarding transaction with the people written in mobile phone. His brother Mohsin shuttles between Mumbai and Nagpur and works as bookie and through Satta operators in Raipur, the two accused brothers collected money from cricket betting and also distributed commissions, informed Additional SP, City, Vijay Agrawal, while briefing the media persons at Police Control Room on Friday evening.

The accused brothers have been involved in Cricket satta over the past five years and in the last two years they have been working as bookies. They collected the betting money for the last Wednesday’s India-South Africa match. In past 3-4 days, the accused Mohd. Asif distributed money to different Cricket satta agents. Besides his involvement in Cricket satta, the accused also has business of clothes and ran a shop under the name Western Wild on Malviya Road.
The police busted the gang after it was tipped off about cricket satta over mobile phone. The betting was forcurrent one-day international match between India and South Africa and also for the matches between other countries.

The accused Mohsin has been involved in cricket satta since 2010 and from 2012 to 2015, he operated in Raipur and became a major ‘Khaiwal’. With the intention of spreading the operation country wide and to become a major player in Satta, he left Raipur and went to Mumbai. It was from Mumbai, the accused with his brother Asif operated the network, the police informed.
