RPF to procure body-worn cameras for transparency

Railway Protection Force (RPF), South East Central Railway (SECR), has decided to procure body-worn cameras for its staff to record visuals during patrolling to bring transparency in dealing with passengers. Inspector General of Police (IG), Railway Protection Force (RPF) Ranvir Singh Chauhan on Saturday shared the information with media. He said that it would help in checking allegations of misbehaviour against RPF staff.

Addressing a press conference at SECR office, Chauhan said that the cameras would be given to the staff patrolling in running trains across the SECR Zone. The visuals of the cameras would be checked by the senior officers everyday, he said. It may be mentioned that there were allegations against RPF staff of misbehaving with passengers. He further informed that Indian Railways had decided to install cameras in the AC coaches of Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express trains to put a check on criminals operating in running trains.

The RPF have arrested 226 thieves this year and recovered stolen valuables worth Rs 12.20 lakh from their possession. The arrested accused were handed-over to Government Railway Police (GRP). The SECR RPF have also apprehended 25 persons involved in Ganja transportation in running trains. Ganja worth Rs five lakh was seized from their possession. The crackdown against railway tickets touts resulted into arrest of 24 touts including 14 e-ticket touts, travel agents and cyber cafe operators. The force have nabbed 7,150 without-ticket passengers, 3,380 passengers for traveling in train coaches meant for handicapped persons, around 5,000 illegal vendors and 6,000 anti-social elements. Sr. DSC Ashutosh Pandey was present in the press conference.

100 vacancies in RPF

Currently, SECR Zone have sanctioned strength of 1,700 RPF men with around 100 vacancies. The SECR RPF have sent a proposal to increase the strength upto 2,500 for better operations.
