Cong’s Saurabh Sharma alleges scam in recovery of power bills

“Another major scam worth crores came to light in the name of recovery of electricity bills from consumers. Corrupt officers recovered electricity bills from consumers but the same was not deposited in account of power distribution company. Innocent consumers who have already paid their bills are being served notices for presenting the payment receipts of previous months otherwise their electricity connections will be detached. Instead of initiating inquiry and punishing the corrupt officers company has served warning notices to consumers,” charged Saurabh Sharma, Secretary, Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee while addressing a press conference, on Sunday.

Saurabh Sharma informed that around 700-800 consumers have been served notices mentioning that they had paid electricity bills in 2-3 months back but its record is missing with the company. Corrupt senior officers are trying to compel a linemen and his son working as contractual computer operator in the scam to hush-up the issue. He also alleged use of official log-in identity of a retired accounts officers for corrupt practices.

Sharma informed that a large number of consumers have registered their complaints with Congress leaders about injustice with them. He assured that Congress leaders will soon lodge a complaint with Lokayukta of Madhya Pradesh for investigation into the case and ensure justice with innocent electricity consumers. Addressing press conference, former MLA Lakhan Ghanghoria alleged conspiracy of senior officers in power companies who are working for their vested interests and hiding corrupt practices of the State Government.

Consumers have no faith on consumers redressal forum and Regulatory Commission and they are registering complaints on helpline number of Congress. He assured that along with lodging a complaint with Lokayukta, Congress leaders will soon started a massive campaign to reveal several other scams in the power sector. During press conference, Congress, City President, Dinesh Yadav, Chaman Shrivastava and others were present.
