high velocity winds and drizzling on Sunday exposed all the tall claims of Madhya Pradesh Poorva Kshetra Vidyut Vitran Company Limited’s maintenance of power distribution infrastructure. Power supply was thrown out of gear due to poor maintenance works and careless working of the city circle office. Businessmen in Marhatal and Civic Centre faved a tough time as their business was badly hampered due to power failure during peak hours on Sunday. All the claims proved hollow with damage of power distribution lines in several areas due to mismanaged working of officers concerned. High velocity winds uprooted several trees which led to damage of power distribution infrastructure in Civil Lines area.

The incident revealed poor response time of city circle office in revamping electricity supply. The city circle office conducted maintenance works prior to monsoon but overlooked identification of trees adjacent to electricity lines for their trimming. Similarly, Divisional Officers including Executive Engineer, Assistant Engineer and Junior Engineer overlooked the complaints. Entire working of field staff was focused on attending complaints of influential persons. Complaints increased manifold at five divisional offices and a major portion of the area faced power failure throughout the night. Besides this, consumers of West division also faced power failure at major market places and offices in the city area. Voltage fluctuation and frequent tripping of electricity lines proved troublesome for businessmen in market places like Marhatal, Civic Centre, Super Market and Lordganj areas.
