History sheeter lands in police net

CRIME BRANCH sleuths nabbed one and confiscated a country made pistol and 100 live cartridges from his possession in Bhilai-3. The police said that the accused was a history sheeter and he was involved in several offences including attempt to murder hooliganism other heinous offences. The police cell handed over the accused to the police station concerned along with arm and ammunition recovered by police for further legal action in the matter.

Police sources informed that the accused was identified as Ravindra Sahu alias Bathuwa (37), a resident of Ganesh Chowk, Charoda Basti, Bhilai-3. The police said that the special cell team was working out routine inputs when the officials were tipped off about the suspect Ravindra Sahu, looking for customers for selling weapons and cartridges for procuring money. While acting in the matter, the police cell team swung into action and sent a police personnel, impersonating as the customer. On being signaled the police cell team trapped the accused and arrested him on charges of illegal possession of arms and ammunition.

In the course of further investigation, the police cell team recovered the country made fire weapon and live cartridges from his possession. The accused had hidden the cartridges and the weapon in a cement bag at a secret place in his house. The police registered the offence against the accused under section 25 of Arms Act for indulging in the criminal act of illegal possession of arms.

Police sources further informed that during interrogation in the police custody accused disclosed before the police that during the year 2009, he used to go for fishing at a well located at the crematorium in Patharra village of Charoda and he happened to learn about arms and ammunition in a huge quantity at the well’s bottom. During two three days he took some weapons and cartridges in his possession but later it was seized by the police. The police also said that since the accused was a history sheeter he was possessing arms with criminal intention and also to sell out them for procuring money. The police have already initiated further investigation in the matter.
