Tax evaders cannot escape might of ‘Operation Clean Money’ n Staff Reporter

Calling upon the entire rank and file of Income Tax Department to deal with the tax evaders with an iron-first, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Pr.CCIT), Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, P K Dash made it clear that it will be extremely difficult for evaders to escape their tax liability to the department. “For the reasons, the tax enforcers have with them all types of data under ‘Operation Clean Money’ (OCM) about the tax evaders such as bank deposits, property transactions, loans from Shell Companies etc. There is still time as return can be modified and filed before March 31, 2018,” he asserted.

Dash, who was on his second visit to Chhattisgarh, made this assertion while chairing a review meeting with all the officers of the region. Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (CCIT) S S S B Ray and Pr.CIT-2, Raipur, Ajit Korde were also present in the meeting.

According to official sources, Dash during the meeting asked all officers for strongly focusing on tax recovery campaign (Aayakar Sangrahan Abhiyaan) and taxpayer base augmentation campaign (Aayakar Vistaaran Abhiyaan). The Pr.CCIT also said that till now under operation clean money 5190 notices were sent by email to persons who have deposited cash more than prescribed limits. Out of them, 3769 persons have replied to notices. They have declared their source of income and the Department is verifying their claims.

Pr. CCIT directed Income tax department Chhattisgarh to focus on collection of arrear demand and to carry out special campaign for recovery of arrear demand. Persons with old arrear demand must be tracked and outstanding demand should reach to government treasury. Persons whose address is not traceable should be searched with the help of bank KYC documents.

The Pr.CCIT further had a prolong session with the JCITS and he has deeply reviewed their performances and highlighted their shortcomings and appreciated their achievements. He directed them to focus on the assigned targets and also carry out the campaigns and out-reach programme related to the (Aayakar Sangrahan Abhiyaan) and (Aayakar Vistaaran Abhiyaan).

The Pr.CCIT also assured to revisit the region during the first week of March-2018 for further review and monitoring of the various targets assigned to the charge of CCIT, Raipur.
