By Rajendra Diwe,

‘Mahashivratri’ is the unique festival of India. People remain awake throughout the night and perform rituals to worship Lord Shiva. This night is very important for ‘Satvik,’ “Rajasik’ and “Tamsik’ devotees. People perform ‘Mantra Sadhana’ and ‘Tantra Sadhana’ as on this night Shiva is very generous to bless all.

Why we celebrate Mahashivratri? is the difficult question. Though the festival is being celebrated across the country, no one knows the answer to this question. Some celebrate ‘Mahashivratri’ as marriage of Lord Shiva and Parvati while some celebrate to pray Shiva to destroy all evils (inside and outside). Some people celebrate this festival to get material gains by doing Tantric Sadhana while some want spiritual awakening by doing Mantra Sadhana. In short, people worship Lord Shiva on Mahashivratri as per their own perceptions.

According to Shiv Puran, on Mahashivratri, Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu accepted the superiority of Lord Shiva when they were unable to find the end of pillar of fire, which Lord Shiva had transformed himself into-it.
Akhand Jyoti, a monthly magazine of All World Gayatri Pariwar (AWGP) in its special issue on Maha Shivratri has mentioned Shivratri as the special night which is connected to Lord Shiva that gives true bliss to soul.

“Shiva means the one who is auspicious and generous. Shankar means the one who is merciful and benevolent. In order to please Him and get results of their prayers, people have to become like Him. This festival is celebrated to please Lord Shiva. During the day time our mind, senses and vital force travel from within to the outside world. Thereafter at night it reverses back towards Shiva element. In this way, Shivratri means, the special night which is connected to Lord Shiva that gives true bliss to souls. The sadhana performed on Maha Shivratri is considered auspicious as it expedites soul’s progress. Also, during this time frame, soul in the form of moon, tries to merge its identity in the Almighty God in the form of Sun. This is the reason why devotees try to observe and perform penances on this night,” says Akhand Jyoti.

According to Jaggi Vasudev or Sadhguru, founder of Isha foundation, “Maha Shivratri is one of the largest and most significant among the sacred festival nights of India.This-the darkest night of the year-celebrates the grace of Shiva, from whom the Yogic tradition originates. The planetary positions on this night are such that there is a powerful natural upsurge of energy in the human system. It is enormously beneficial for one’s physical and spiritual wellbeing to stay awake and aware in a vertical position throughout the night.”

Some spiritual masters feel, “On this night, the kundalini energy can rise easily, aided by the pull of the planets and moon, than on any other days. A rise of kundalini energy takes the seeker to a different level altogether. A word of caution here, that kundalini energy if forced to raise up by an over-enthusiastic seeker often ends up harming him/her as the path to the top of the head may not be clear, and the energy can divert into other areas of the body.”

Prajapita Brahmakumaries Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya says, “Shiv Jayanti or Shiv-Ratri is the most auspicious festival of the world which is celebrated to commemorate the reincarnation of incorporeal, point of light, supreme Father, Supreme Soul Shiva. Supreme Father of all souls, God Shiva, by giving the true knowledge of Gita at the time of extreme decay of religion, gets re-established the original Adi Sanatan Deity religion and gets destroyed the irreligious, unrighteous and corrupt old iron-aged word. He alone is the Liberator and Guide of all souls and is the Bestower of happiness and fruition.

Now, the auspicious time for the destruction of impure, corrupt and irreligious iron-aged world - Kaliyuga - and establishment of the holy, completely pure, new golden-aged world- satyuga -has come, when the supreme Father, Supreme Soul Shiva is getting His divine task of purifying and divinizing the human world done through the medium of Prajapita Brahma and Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa - Vidyalaya by teaching the Easy Rajyoga.”

Trimurti God Shiva says: O! My most beloved children, obtain your God- Fatherly birthright of world - sovereignty for 21 successive generations from your Incorporeal Father in the new heavenly golden-aged world in the near future by becoming holy and Rajyogi before the forthcoming huge destruction (world transformation). Very little time left for the huge destruction to take place all too suddenly. Remember, Now or Never. This, in essence, is the auspicious Godly Message for the divine celebration of Shiva Jayanti.
