Future existence of Vehicle Factory Jabalpur (VFJ) depends on foresightedness of factory administration. VFJ has been given open hands to develop and produce its own products as it will have no more targets set by the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB), Kolkata.

Ordnance Factory Board, Chairman, S K Chourasia, while talking to ‘The Hitavada’, informed that VFJ has a unique product of Mine Protected Vehicle (MPV), which is in high demand with Central and State security forces. The board has also received requirements from different countries for MPVs. VFJ needs to streamline and give pace to production of MPVs and exploring its own way to develop new products for maintaining its existence.

The OFB Chairman informed that Ordnance Factories are working with a new vision for optimum utilisation of their expertise and resources. Ordnance Factories are firm on ensuring supply of defence materials, which are not available in the open market to prove its strength. Non-core group of Ordnance Factories have to prove their strength by developing state-of-the-art products for maintaining their existence.

The employees are already worried with the future of VFJ due to end of Transfer of Technology (ToT) agreement in year 2019. The initiative of Ministry of Defence to start outsourcing of non-core group products created future uncertainties for existence of 13 non-core group of Ordnance Factories, including VFJ. Even after being given independence to develop its own resources, VFJ administration is yet to develop new products and streamlining the production of MPVs. Employees are also annoyed with lackadaisical working of factory administration in ensuring availability of materials for production of vehicles. The factory administration has failed to reply to the queries of employees and developing confidence amongst them about the future of the
factory.
