Four houses damaged, 8 persons injured due to thunderbolt in Garha

FOUR houses were damaged and eight persons, including a 9-month-old child, sustained injuries due to sliding of heavy stones following a thunderbolt at Bedi Nagar, Badanpur in Garha on Tuesday morning. Three critically injured named Rajkumar Choudhary, Kanta Bai Choudhary and Gopal Choudhary are undergoing treatment at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College and Hospital, while other injured named Bhuralal Choudhary, Rohit Thakur, Nandini Choudhary and her 9-month-old daughter Nidhi Choudhary were discharged from hospital after primary treatment.

Taking precautionary measures, 12 vulnerable houses were vacated and families were sheltered at Community Hall in Garha. A total number of 28 vulnerable houses were listed for rehabilitating families to avoid such incidents. Learning about the incident, Collector Mahesh Chandra Choudhary, Additional Superintendent of Police Sandeep Mishra, SDM, Gorakhpur, Arvind Singh, CSP, Gorakhpur, Anjulata Patle, SHO of Garha police station, Kanhaiyya Singh Baghel along with senior officers of Jabalpur Municipal Corporation along with rescue team reached the spot and started rescue operations.

Collector Mahesh Chandra Choudhary, while talking to ‘The Hitavada’ informed that senior officers have been directed to vacate houses situated on the same hilly area and providing shelter to displaced persons in Rain Basera. Till now, 28 houses have been shortlisted and several families have been shifted. Municipal authorities are providing them food and other basic facilities and preparing to rehabilitate them under Government schemes. A large number of labourers migrated from rural areas have illegally constructed their houses in hilly areas. Several incidents have occurred in the past but local authorities have failed in removing encroachments and rehabilitation of displaced persons.
