Special drive to register labourers of construction from February 15

A special drive for registration of construction labourers is being initiated from February 15. As per law such a registration of workers is necessary. The Guardian Minister of Nagpur Chandrashekhar Bawankule has stated that the contractors will be allowed to start construction work only after registration of labour deployed by him. In case of violation of this rule, action against the contractor and executive engineer will be taken.


Bawankule was addressing a meeting, here, member of Labour Welfare Board Ashok Bhutad, Zilla Parishad Chief Nisha Savarkar, Legislators Anil Sole and Sudhakar Kohale; District Collector Sachin Kurve, Labour Commissioner and others were present.


Maharashtra has categorised 22 types of construction work for employment of labour, for which registration is necessary. The contractor is required to provide 19 types of facilities for labourer.


In Nagpur district registration of about 40,000 labourer is expected. those who get at least 90 days work will have to get certificate from the contractor and appropriate government authority. Registration of all construction workers is necessary, without which they will not be able to work.


The drive for registration will continue upto March 15. officers for registration and issuing certificates have been appointed in municipal corporations, councils, nagar panchayat, gram panchayats. Special camps will be held for registration of the construction workers. facilities of education for their wards, health services, facilities for purchasing tools etc will be provided. In Nagpur such camps will be held in all ten zones. From April 1, flying squads will verify registration at various construction sites.
