Steel city celebrates Mahashivratri with zeal

'MAHASHIVRATRI' was celebrated with religious fervor on Tuesday in steel city where a large number of devotees observed fast and offered milk, water, belpatti, flowers, sweets and fruits on the Shivlingam, situated at every corner of the city temples. Long queues were seen in almost every city temples. All temples were tastefully decorated and illuminated to mark the grand occasion of Mahashivratri. Mass feast, Langars of various food varieties were also arranged and distributed on the occasion.

SNGDS SHIVA TEMPLE, SECTOR-4: Residents from all corners of the city gathered at SNGDS premises, where it was looking like a colorful fair. Mahashivratri is one of the biggest festivals, a day celebrated with enthusiasm and the Kavadi yatra, particularly, was not an occasion to be missed by the devotees. Earlier the celebrations began at SNGDS Shiva Temple with 'Udayastamana Pooja'.The main attraction was the Kavadi procession from AyyappaTemple, Sector-2 to Sector-4 with Shingari Melam (from Kerala); the rituals of Kavadi, coconut, panchamrit, 'Chandan, bhasma abhishekam, sarpa pooja concluded after mass feeding. In the evening the rituals began with Kavadi Procession from Lord Ganesh Temple, Sector-5 to Sector-4 SNGDS Temple with Thalapoli and Shingari Melam followed by attractive fireworks and different types of Abhishekams from 10 pm.

BAIKUNTH DHAM: Lakhs of devotees paid obeisance at Baikunth Dham. This Shiva temple is one of the famous temples in the jurisdiction of Bhilai Municipal Corporation. Devotees started arriving at the temple from midnight onwards to offer milk and fruits to the life size deity. They had come from different parts of city and the darshan began in the wee hours of the morning. The queue of devotees was several meters long and people had to wait for hours, in order to reach near the deity and offer prayers. The devotees offered a mix-ture of water, honey and milk on the Shivalingam and idol.

SHIVA TEMPLE BHELWA POND, NEHRU NAGAR: The Shiva Temple Bhelwa Pond built at Nehru Nagar also saw a large number of devotees reaching the temple paying obeisance on the occasion of Shivaratri. The crowds showed no signs of thinning outside the Shiva Temple at Bhelwa Pond, Nehru Nagar till evening. Likewise the four-day long grand 'Maharudram celebration, organized on the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri at Skandashram, Bhilai where the religious rituals comprising of Mahasankalpam, Subh Nandi, Dasdhanam, and others are being performed by team of Acharyas specially invited from South India with Acharya Maniswami, founder of Skandashram Bhilai and chief resource person.
