Three industrialists’ names figure in Mahaveer’s suicide note, audio

Frustrated over relentless torture and threats by some of the industrialists, a noted finance broker of the city Mahaveer Choradia (48), son of Vijaylal Choradia had committed suicide by jumping in front of a running train. Before committing suicide he had uploaded a 3-minute 29 second audio and a suicide note on WhatsApp Group.
Late Saturday night, relatives found Mahaveer’s dismembered body. Police also recovered a suicide note from him.

After performing panchnama of the body, Kotwali police had registered the case. Police are yet to record statements of the relatives and the industrialists whose names figure in the audio and letter written by the deceased alleging torture. The deceased Mahaveer Choradia was one of the biggest finance brokers in the city. Mahaveer commanded respect and confidence as broker not only in the state but also in neighbouring states.
Deceased Mahaveer had been doing transaction of crores of rupees merely on slips (hundi) for years. In these transactions, crores of rupees of Mahaveer was involved and stuck.

With the introduction of GST and demonetization, huge amount of the broker was stuck for long leading to financial calamity for the broker and this had created mental agony for the broker. Sources close to him said that Mahaveer was in deep mental distress for long as his money in the transaction got stuck.

The sources further claimed that if the message and conversations of the broker was any indication he was being mentally tortured and harassed. Three top industrialists of the city also mounted pressure on him and tortured him, forcing Mahaveer to end his life.

Mahaveer levelled this allegation in audio and suicide note. He further mentioned that these three industrialists had given him crores of rupees to run on interest in the market. The industrialists after pressurizing Mahaveer had recovered Rs 70-75 crore from him.

Mahaveer mentioned that this huge amount he borrowed from other traders and returned it to the industrialists as he could no longer bear their abusive behaviour. Police informed that as per the audio and suicide note it is clear that the Directors Vinod Lohia and Ashok Lohia of Dhanlaxmi Paper Mill and Kamal Mundada had recovered Rs 75 crore from Mahaveer and continuously they were threatening him over phone to give balance amount.

Deceased Mahaveer Choradia is the brother of Gautam Choradia, who is Registrar in Chhattisgarh High Court. Mahaveer had also alleged that the reputation of his family was also at stake due to the indecent and torturing attitude of these people. A large number of businessmen, eminent citizens from city Rajnandgaon, Durg, Bhilai and Raipur who participated in his funeral rites had demanded a fair enquiry into the suicidal death of Mahaveer. According to them, he was forced into taking this extreme step and persons responsible for it should be brought to books.

Meanwhile, SP Prashant Agrawal said that a case has been registered. After examination of audio and suicide notes and after recording statements of the accused, the investigation would be started.
City Kotwali SHO Yaqub Ali said that prima facie on the statements of the witnesses, police have booked the three industrialists under Sections 306, and 34 of IPC.
