THE Central Government has almost finalised the policy to scrap vehicles that are older than 15 years post-manufacture, as stated by Union Minister of Road Transport Mr. Nitin Gadkari. This cut-off tenure was in the offing for quite some time. The Government seems to have finalised the details now. This will prove to be a good policy initiative in favour of environment. For, it is common knowledge that older vehicles tend to mess up with the environment because their engines emit more toxic materials than the ones in the new vehicles. So, implementation of this new policy will also help in a big way to control air pollution. However, it must be stated that the Government must not miss the point of vintage cars, which is a matter of connoisseur-taste. Lakhs of vintage models are still in operation across the country and their owners feel a sense of proud possession with the vehicles. In the vintage thought, older the vehicle, the better it is. The new policy must not lose sight of this aspect. For, vintage philosophy has its own importance in the scheme of connoisseur culture.
