The theme for this year’s WED ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ reflects the positive mindset of the people concerned with protection of the environment. Surveys have brought to light a glaring fact that one-time use plastic are slowly but surely polluting our planet and gravely threatening not only the marine life but even our health. Since times immemorial, India philosophy has laid stress on a harmonious co-existence with nature and the need to follow the ancient principles is paramount today because the Planet is under grave threat. India’s strong foundation of picking up initiatives that help safeguard the environment have held her in good stead. It is now time to match our words with action. Each nation has to work diligently to safeguard the environment. To fight the plastic menace, the first step is to find sustainable alternatives and reduce excessive use of plastic. Let us take this mission seriously. Else the day is not far when the earth will be but one huge dump of plastic.
