emphatic show

VIRAT Kohli-led Team India scripted a new chapter in reducing hosts South Africa to the status of novices by registering emphatic series victories in the two shorter versions of the game. In the light of this victory, the Test series loss appeared as a mere aberration. Even that rubber could have been in the Indian team’s pocket with a little preparation, which South African fast bowler Philander had talked about before the beginning of the Test series. After a long tour the Indian team deserved a parting gift and bowlers did not disappoint on the last day of the tour. They pinned down the South African batsmen to ensure that victory and winners’ trophy was theirs.

This tour must have imparted lot of lessons to both teams. For Team India a more proficient result could not have been achieved on a foreign soil. In fact this tour of South Africa was considered as baptism by fire for many of the young Indian players. The result of the entire tour would give them new-found confidence in their ability to deliver in times of need and about their capabilities as international cricketers.

While the extraordinary batting talent, led by magnificent Virat Kohli, was known to the cricketing world, what came as a surprise was the fire power of the Indian pace bowlers and twosome spinners in Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldip Yadav. Hence the bowling department too measured up to the talent of the batting side. Thus in all the formats of game, the pleasing part was the all-round display of the Indian team which the South African hosts may not have bargained for. So much so that many of the South African greats of the past agreed in their undiluted praise that the pace attack India has is of world class and is formidable for any opposition.

While the show of the Indian team in the One-Dayers was highly clinical, with a likely clean sweep had the Rain Gods not interfered in one of the games of the six-match series, the performance in the test matches would certainly come in for scrutiny as Team India takes on much formidable teams like England and Australia in coming months. In fact the experience gained during South African tour should bolster the confidence of the team to do even better.

In the meanwhile, while the Indian men were pulverising the South African male cricketers, their women counterpart too were handing down sound thrashing to the South African women in the 20Twenty bilateral series, scripting a 3-1 victory over their women. The Indian women were so dominant in their demolition of the South African women that they had no clue. Thus the Indian women too are emulating their male counterparts in establishing their international credentials.
