India, Vietnam moving towards new threshold of defence ties: Maj Gen Gill

Major General KJS Gill, Sena Medal, Chief of Staff, Headquarters Madhya Bharat Area was interacting with media during concluding of VINBAX – 2018


“India and Vietnam are moving towards new threshold of defence ties. VINBAX – 2018 mirrors the increasing army to army contact between the two countries. India has lots of expertise to share with Vietnam People’s Army in the field of UN operations. Vietnam People’s Army will be soon fielding its hospital and engineering company as part of UN contingent after obtaining training with the Indian Army. The event will definitely enhance army to army outreach to strengthen defence ties between India and Vietnam”, says Major General KJS Gill, Sena Medal, Chief of Staff, Headquarters Madhya Bharat Area while interacting with media during concluding of VINBAX – 2018, on Friday.


Major General added that the exercise was primarily for peacekeeping operations under UN Charter. The exercise will develop better working relationship with Vietnam. This practice will be continued with visit of Indian soldiers in Vietnam to learn their specialties. Exercise was a big learning experience for both the armies to serve best in UN charter.
Replaying to a query, Major General KJS Gill says “I am not competent to comment to talk about strategic vision behind such exercise but definitely interaction of two armies there will leads to more such trainings in future”.


Talking to media, Senior Colonel Luu Dinh Hien of Vietnam People’s Army informed that Vietnamese personnel obtained valuable knowledge from Indian soldiers to understand good practices of working in UN Operations. It is a great opportunity to further enhance bilateral relationship with India in materialising peacekeeping operations as India has a rich experience and outstanding contribution to UN Mission.
