Kalasrjan portrays ‘classic’al picture of dance

Tapping their feet in synchronisation along with the dancing bells, the dancers at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s ‘Kalasrjan’, Academy of Indian Music, Dance and Fine Arts beautifully spread the colours of classical art.Kalasrjan academy is celebrating its 10th annual day on Saturday.The two-day long celebration completed its phase one on Saturday evening delighting the audience with colourful performances of classical dance forms like ‘Kathak’ and ‘Bharatnatyam’.

Retired Judge, Supreme Court of India, Justice Vikas Sirpurkar and Associate Secretary, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Nagpur Kendra, Dr A K Mukherjee were the Chief Guests of the programme.Yoga Expert Padmini Jog, Executive Committee member, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Nagpur Kendra, Annapoorni Shastri, Director, Sunanda Sonarikar, Secretary Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Nagpur Kendra and Principal, Srimathy Madkholkar presided over.Annual day celebration started by lighting the traditional lamp at the hands of Chief Guests and other dignitaries.

The first set of performances showcased Bharatnatyam, dance form.Students delivered ‘Pushpanjali’ and ‘Mahaganapati’ as the opening performance of the programme.Disciple of Guru Srimathy Madkholkar mesmerised the audience with Bharatnatyam numbers like ‘Kanda Alarippu’ through which the performers offered respect to God and the audience. Out of several forms of Tandava ‘Ananda Tandava’ which depicts joy followed by ‘Brindavani Thillana’, was showcased by the students at the programme.Junior students of the academy, Balpreet Kaur and Dhanshree Gour who recently bagged prize at a National level dance competition presented their prize winning performance for the audience at the programme.

In the next set of performances dancers performed various dance numbers of Kathak dance form.Disciple of Kathak Guru Radhika Sathe beautifully framed their performances with blend of elegance and expressions.‘Dhrupad’ was the opening number of the second set of performances.Ishani Sathe, Kathak Dancer showcased her perfection with each move she delivered for the audience that left them amazed about the Indian dance form. Performances were followed by ‘Tarana’ and a fusion number.

Artists including S Shanmukhasundaram- Carnatic Vocal, K N Venketeshwaran- Mridangam, Srimathy Madkholkar- Nattuvangam, Shirish Bhalerao- Violin, Kumar Krishnan- Flute, Anupam Sathe- Hindustani Vocal, Dushyant Vyas- pakhawaj, Narendra Kadwe-Lehra and Manish on Tabla accompanied the dancers.

The students of Kalasrjan academy set a mark of excellence with each performance they delivered at the annual day celebration.The annual celebration of the academy will conclude on Sunday offering a dance treat to the audience from 3.30 pm onwards at Bhavan’s Bhagwandas Purohit Auditorium.
