Phase II of Metro Rail to cater to 3.5 lakh passengers per day

Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL) is gearing up to finalise Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Phase II of Nagpur Metro. A consultation meet of stake-holders was organised at Hotel Centre Point, on Saturday, in which stake-holders shared their views and corrections for Phase II of Nagpur Metro. The proposed Phase II will include corridors in all directions - having a total additional length of about 48 Km with 33 stations. Complete Phase II network is proposed to be elevated and it can be executed in 4 years after the project is sanctioned.

Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Member of Parliament Krupal Tumane, Member of Rajya Sabha Ajay Sancheti, Mayor Nanda Jichkar, Zilla Parishad President Nisha Sawarkar, Managing Director of MMRCL Brijesh Dixit, MLAs Sudhakar Deshmukh and Sameer Meghe, MLC Prof Anil Sole, corporators and others attended the meet. The Phase II of Nagpur Metro is estimated to cost about Rs 11,000 crore and it will have a ridership of about 3.5 lakh passengers per day in the year 2041. Final DPR will be tabled before the State Government in April 2018 and the State will forward it to Centre for its nod. Phase III of Nagpur Metro will connect remaining areas of city and district.

The preparation of DPR for Phase II corridors is being done as per new Metro Rail Policy of Central Government and the same is in advance stage of completion. Most of the field studies including traffic surveys, topographical surveys and geotechnical investigations will be completed shortly.Nagpur Metro Phase I has two corridors of about 41 Km length with a total of 40 stations. Thus, the city and district will have a total metro network of about 89 Km with 73 stations once Phase II is sanctioned. Phase II corridor will also help in attracting about 1.1 lakh additional passengers on Phase I network, it was stated in the meet.

 

Corridors for Phase II

Automotive Square to Kanhan, 13 Km with 13 stations. The corridor will cater to the areas of Khasara, Lekha Nagar, Kamptee, and Dragon Palace Temple.

Khapri to MIDC ESR, 19 Km with 10 stations. The corridor will have the catchment area of Jamtha, Dongargaon, Mohgaon, Butibori, MHADA Colony, Indorama Colony.

Pardi to Transport Nagar, 4 Km with 3 stations. The corridor will serve the vicinity of Ambe Nagar, Kapsi, Transport Nagar & Asoli.

Mount view, Hingna to Hingna tehsil, 6 Km with 5 stations. The corridor will pass through Nildoh, Gajanan Nagar, Rajiv Nagar, Lakshmi Nagar, Raipur, and Hingna town including surrounding MIDC areas.

Vasudev Nagar to Wadi, 6 Km with 2 stations. Primarily the corridor will have the catchment of Raisoni College, surrounding MIDC area, Ordnance Factory Colony, and Wadi along Amravati Road.
