Staff Reporter,

It was a Sunday evening. And, what an exciting and refreshing evening it was at South Central Zone Cultural Centre (SCZCC)! The students from diverse backgrounds, flaunting colouful attires, synchronising not only their steps but also efforts and soul, presented the heart-winning performance of Baredi folk dance from Madhya Pradesh.

After winning the first prize in Republic Day Parade in New Delhi recently, the contingent of 174 students from 30 schools in Nagpur, was back -- with not only the prize but also the joy in their kitty. Their performance in SCZCC premises added colours to Sunday evening. Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister; and Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways, and Shipping, also made it a point to visit SCZCC and felicitate these students.

“Unity in diversity is the biggest strength of our nation. India is a living treasure-house of history and tradition in all their richness. The reflections of Indian culture are found in different dance forms. The students who presented Baredi folk dance in Republic Day Parade made it known to the world that Madhya Pradesh was rich in arts,” said Fadnavis, while addressing the students on this occasion. He said that dance forms were a blend of culture, language, and rich tradition. He appealed to the students to keep working to further add glory to India and Maharashtra.

Gadkari also appreciated the students for their stupendous performance and excellent synchronisation. He felicitated Kishor and Kishori Hampiholi, who choreographed the prize-winning rendition of Baredi dance. The students wanted to get themselves photographed with Fadnavis and Gadkari, and both happily agreed to that.

Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Guardian Minister of district; Dr Parinay Fuke, MLC; Indrajit Grover, Director of SCZCC; Sudarshan Patil, Chief Accounts and Finance Officer; Ganesh Thorat, Public Relations Officer; other officers of SCZCC, teachers and parents of students of the prize-winning team were present prominently on this occasion.
Shweta Shelgaonkar compered the programme while Sudarshan Patil proposed a vote of thanks.
