Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) was caught lying through teeth, when the reason given by RMC Zone-3 behind cutting of healthy trees at Gandhi/Nehru Park turned out to be false.
Environmentalist Nitin Singhvi had submitted a complaint with the Urban Administration and Development Department Secretary Dr Rohit Yadav against the chopping of trees. In reply to the Chief Secretary, RMC Zone-3 had reported that the trees were uprooted and tilted after spell of heavy storm and rain.

But, when the complainant dig further into the matter and obtained meteorology records of September 26, 2017, from the Indira Gandhi Meteorology Centre, it was revealed that forget about storm or rain, the wind speed on the said date was just 2.7 kilometre per hour and maximum wind speed from September 22 to 26, 2017 was a meagre 4.5 kilometre per hour. But, the gust which can uproot trees usually runs at 50 kilometres per hour.
Trees were cut down without any concrete reason and government was fed wrong information. In reality, no tree had fell down in storm.
