Cops raid RooF 9 Restaurant, book six persons

Cops seize hookah pots, tobacco, liquor bottles, musical instruments and sound system collectively worth Rs 50,000


A SPECIAL team of Sitabuldi Police led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Nilesh Bharne raided RooF 9 Restaurant situated on fourth floor of Lahoree Delux buidling near Coffee House Square in Dharampeth and booked six persons, including its owner, manager and two young girls, for illegally providing hookah with flavoured tobaccos and foreign liquor to customers in the small hours of Monday.


Cops seized hookah pots, tobacco, liquor bottles, musical instruments and sound system collectively worth Rs 50,000 from the restaurant during a birthday party.
The accused have been identified as restaurant manager Sayyed Istekhar Sayyed Mushtaq, Mukund Nagar, Teka, owner Sahil Motwani, a resident of Amravati, receptionist Preeti Anik Singh, part time employee Lalsa Kinvi Punsey, a native of Mizoram, waiters Arjun Manohar Parade, a resident of Karanja and Naveen Nitesh Meshram, a resident of Ajni Railway Colony.


While on night round, DCP (Zone IV) Bharne, who is holding additional charge of Zone II, got information that the owner and manager of RooF 9 Restaurant were illegally providing hookahs and liquor to customers.


After confirming the information, Bharne directed senior Inspector (Sitabuldi) Hemantkumar Kharabe to form a special team and raid the restaurant.
Accordingly, the team raided the restaurant and caught the accused red handed while providing customers hookah and foreign liquor.


Following a complaint lodged by PSI K P Raut, Sitabuldi Police registered an offence under Sections 66(e) and 68 of Maharashtra Prohibition Act, Sections 4 and 24 of Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act (COTPA) and Section 135 of Maharashtra Police Act against the accused persons.
