SECR to switch to LED bulbs to save power consumption

Nagpur Division of South East Central Railway (SECR) has targeted savings of Rs 58.82 lakh per annum on its power bills by switching over to LED bulbs and energy efficient electrical appliances through replacement of conventional fitting. About additional 18 stations of division have been provided 100 per cent LED fitting in the current financial year taking numbers of stations with completed LED set-up to 60. About Rs. 44.93 lakhs was utilised for LED fitting that led to savings of 1,97,297 units.


The division bosses have identified 58 other stations that are under gauge conversion that to would be fitted with LED bulbs that are provided by Electrical Construction department of Railway.


About three A class stations (Rajnandgaon, Gondia and Bhandara Road) are being provided 864 nos. various LED fittings along with 21 nos. super energy efficient air conditioners and 429 nos. ceiling fans. The work is entrusted to M/s EESL with estimated cost of ` 87.85 Lakhs, which will be re-paid over a period of five years in equated installments.


Thereafter 39 nos. remaining stations are also proposed to be fitted with 100 per cent LED conversion through M/s EESL at estimated cost of Rs 1.41 crores, which is to be re-paid in equated 20 installments over a period of five years. The work includes provision of 3046 nos. of various LED light fittings, 07 nos. of super energy efficient ACs ad 833 nos. ceiling fans.


All the items will be energy efficient with 5 star rated. On completion of the work annual saving of Rs. 58.82 Lakhs will be achieved.

SECR to purchase 883 KWp roof top solar power plant

In addition to savings on powers, Nagpur Division of SECR has executed power purchase agreement with M/s Azure Power Ltd. for installation of 883 KWp roof top solar power plant at cost of Rs 5.74 crores over 18 service buildings and stations during the current year. It will improve reliability of power supply and will conserve conventional energy. The average saving works out to be Rs 67.3 lakhs/year, the average cost of installation for 1 KWp Solar plant is Rs 65000.
