With the central assistance of Rs 4.50 crore, Sports Department is working on the project to relay synthetic track used for international as well as national athletics events. This work is likely to get completed by month end. Likewise, grass of football ground is also being changed.

Sources in Sports Department said that relaying work of synthetic track has been approved by international athletic federation. It is totally centrally aided project and is likely to get completed by February 20. “The life of any synthetic track is 10 years but the synthetic track of TT Nagar Stadium has been used for double period that is for 20 years and hence it is the need of the hour to relay new synthetic track,” said sources of Sports Department.

Talking exclusively to ‘The Hitavada’ Joint Director of Department of Sports and Youth Welfare, B S Yadav said that no Indian company is having approval to lay synthetic track and European companies are considered best to do this work. Hence, German company Polytan has been roped in for relaying synthetic track.

If any national and international athletic event has to be held then synthetic track is mandatory. On such tracks, all kinds of athletics events and sprints are held. B S Yadav also informed that grass of football ground is also being changed with the
estimated cost of around Rs 17 lakh.

Sources added that once the synthetic track is changed with modern synthetic tracks, sportsmen of Madhya Pradesh will be able to prepare themselves for national and international events in better manner. The work of relaying new
synthetic track is underway since January.
