‘Anant Koti Brahmanada Nayaka Rajadhiraj Yogiraj Shegaon Niwasi Samarth Sadguru Gajanan Maharaj Ki Jai’…devotees of Saint Gajanan Maharaj loudly raises this slogan in the honour of Saint Shri Gajanan Maharaj. With their hearts filled with joy, happiness and bliss, they start dancing on the tunes of ‘Gan Gan Ganat Bote’ and start reciting aarti in one voice as ‘Jai Jai Satchit Swaroopa Swami Ganaraya, Avatarlasi Bhoowari Jad Moodh Taraya’…
This is the overall scene in each temple of Sant Gajanan Maharaj spread across the Maharashtra state on ‘Pragat Din of Sant Gajanan Maharaj.’

Appeared on February 23, 1878, in a small town Shegaon in Khamgaon tehsil, Sant Gajanan Maharaj became the deity for his followers in large numbers. Like Saibaba of Shirdi, Sant Gajana Maharaj is also ruling over the hearts and minds of people despite their castes, creeds, religions and customs. ‘Gajanan Vijay Granth’ written by Sant Das Ganu Maharaj in the ‘Ovi’ poetic form in Marathi in the year 1939 AD has not received a status of Holy Scripture among the devotees of Sant Gajanan Maharaj.

The scripture has been translated in many languages and Sant Gajanan Maharaj Sansthan in Shegaon has become the place of pilgrimage for them. The glory of Sant Gajanan Maharaj has spread across the states and now Shegaon is witnessing a large number of devotees from Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, Odisha along with Maharashtra State. Some devotees of Sant Gajanan Maharaj settled in countries like America, UK, Australia, Dubai, Muscat, Saud Arab etc have also started the ‘Upasana Mandals’ in these countries also. The two translations of ‘Gajanan Vijay Granth’ are available in English also, for these devotees. This show, the devotion, dedication and faith in Gajanan Maharaj have crossed the borders and barriers.

Sant Gajanan Maharaj has now become ‘God’ in Kaliyuga. When the intellectuals, rationalists or so called educated people are busy in arguments, debates, discussions on whether Sant Gajanan Maharaj is a saint or God or Awaliya or psychologically challenged human beings, the real devotees of Sant Gajanan Maharaj without bothering such thoughts have surrendered to the lotus feet of this great Saint.

The spiritual world endorses the presence of Saint Gajanan Maharaj as the ultimate reality that has manifested on the earth. There are many commentaries of Vedic scholars regarding the form and presence of God.

Shiv Baba of Prajapita Brahmakumaris says, “We Eternal Souls acting on this Drama Stage (Earth) but GOD (Supreme Soul) is beyond this Corporeal World Drama stage. GOD is Ocean of Knowledge, Ocean of Love, Ocean of Bliss, and Ocean of Truth.” Yoga and Spiritual Life by Sri Chinmoy defines God as: Sat Chit Ananda that is a triple consciousness. Here, Sat is existence, Chit is consciousness and Anand is bliss.”

AC Bhaktivedant Shrila Prabhupada founder of International Society for Krishna Consciousness ISKCON quoting the 35th verse of 4th chapter of Bhagvad Gita says, “I am a small fragmental spirit soul which is a part and parcel of the Supreme Spi rit and that Supreme Spirit is none other than Lord Krishna. And quality of Krsna is explained in 1st verse of Brahma Samhita, by lord Brahma as- ‘Ishwara Param Krishna; Sat-Chit-Anand vigrah’, So Krsna is full of Sat,Chit and Anand. And since we (Soul) are His parts and parcel, therefore the quality of this spirit soul is Sat-Chit -Anand. Sat means eternal i.e. which was never created. Chit means full of knowledge and Anand means full of Bliss.”

Swami Sivananda says, “Atman is Sat Chit Ananda. Sat means that which exists in the past, present and future, which has no beginning, middle and end, which is unchanging, which is not conditioned in time, space and causation, which exists during Jagrat, Svapna and Sushupti, which is of the nature of one homogeneous essence (Sada Ekarasa, Sada Ekarupa) is Sat. Atman is Chit for it shines by itself unaided by any other light and illumines whole universe by its own light.”

N B Patil translated Gajanan Vijay Granth in 1980 which was published by P H Patil for Shree Gajanan Maharaj Sansthan Shegaon Maharashtra. Shankar B Pandit, a resident of New York, USA has also translated the Gajanan Vijay Granth and published the same by Shivshankar S Patil for Shree Gajanan Maharaj Sansthan, Shegaon on September 12, 2010 on Shree Gajanan Maharaj Samadhi Din.

N B Patil writes, “Gajanan! Was seen in Shegaon; For the first time; On the seventh day of dark fortnight of Magh; In the Indian Saka 1800; The twenty-third day of February 1878.”

Shankar B Pandit writes, “Shree Gajanan appeared in Shegaon town; In magh on Seventh of waning moon. A devotee Devidas has arranged a party. In celebration of his son’s puberty. Leaf platers with unused food were thrown. Out of at the door, Sant Gajanan was seen Eating Morsels left over.”

After narrating the entire event of his first appearance in Shegaon according to N.B Patil, Sant Gajanan Maharaj said, “All this universe is pervaded by one reality. All things, hot and dirty, unclean and sweety, are the manifestations of the same Brahman.”

After reading 21 chapters and of 3,668 Ovis of ‘Gajanan Vijay Granth,’ a true spiritual person could understand the form of God described in ancient scriptures as Sat Chit Anand Parabrahma and starts saluting Sant Gajanan Mahaharaj as ‘Nirgun Brahma Sanatan Avyay Avinashi, Shtirchar Vyapun Urle Je Yaa Jagtashi; Te Tu Tattva Nissanchaya Asashi, Leela Matre Dharile Manav Dehashi’ (Nirgun means without any attributes; Brahma-supreme consciousness; Sanatan-Eternal; Avyay-Indeclinable; Avinashi-Indestructable; Sthirchar-in entire universe; Vyapun-spread; Urale-still remaining, te-that, tu-you, Tattva-principle; Nisanshay-beyond any doubt; Asashi-yes you are, leelamatre-to act in the drama on earth; dharile-appeared; Manav dehashi- in human body). These two lines recited in the glory of Sant Gajanan Maharaj confirms that the supreme consciousness in the form of a human appeared on this earth to show His presence to entire human beings.
