A fire broke out in the gowdown of waste at Vallabh Nagar 2 slum area located near the Vallabh Bhawan building on Wednesday evening. The sudden fire broke out at around 04:30 pm after which a team of fire brigade rushed to the place. As many as five fire tenders of the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) and two fire fighters of police had to battle for around one hour to douse the flames.

The gowdown is used to dump the waste papers of the government buildings and it often catches fire, said Shankar Makoriya the local corporator.
He said that, he has many a times raised the issue before the authorities as in case of fire the local slum dwellers can be harmed.

The waste sometimes becomes a breeding ground of reptiles, which enter the slums hence it should be either closed or proper security measures should be implemented there, said Makoriya. BMC fire Officer Rameshwar Neel, said that the cause of the short circuit is yet to be ascertained as it could be either short circuit or some miscreant lit the waste.
