Four held for possessing lepord hide

Four people hailing from Maharashtra were arrested from bus stand under Ambagarh outpost limits, here on Wednesday night for possessing leopard hide.The arrested people have been identified as Dhananjay Singh (30), resident of Gattepayali; Waman Dhurvey (20), resident of Markegaon; Anand Ram Mandawi (50), and Lalu Korram (48), residents of Moorgaon.

On Wednesday, forest officials received information about four suspected people who are looking for their valuable customers for selling leopards hide near thebus stand. Acting on the tip-of, a special team including Forest Range Officer Pitambar Singh Nayak, Deputy Ranger Gopal Ram Yadav, forest guards Meghnad Nishad, Toran Lal Thakur, Maniram Pal and Durjan Netam reached the indicated location and detained the suspected people.

During interrogation, the accused informed that few days ago they had spotted a carcass of animal in Markegaon forest area falling under Dhanora Tehsil and laid a trap for hunting by sprinkling poison over the carcass. Falling into the trap, a small leopard ate that poisonous flesh and died. All four accused are hailing from Maharashtra. Officials have also seized a leopard hide of 1.25 meters.

“All four accused have been booked under Wildlife Protection Act 1972 and produced them before court from where they have been sent to jail,” said Divisional Forest Officer Mohammad Shahid.
