1,434 bottles of IMFL, car, 2-wheeler seized in Excise Department’s raids

A SPECIAL Squad of State Excise Department raided two houses and seized 1434 bottles of duplicate Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), a Mahindra Scorpio car and a two-wheeler collectively worth over Rs 6.55 lakh.

Two members of a gang involved in supplying duplicate liquor to ‘Dhabha’ owners and some restaurants in dry district of Wardha have been arrested.

The accused have been identified Ajay Ashokrao Shende, a resident of Plot No 57, Aakash Nagar, Hudkeshwar, and Ashish Manikrao Darote, a resident of Plot No 5, Naik Nagar, Manewada Cement Road, Ajni.

Inspector Prashant Gotmare got information that some persons in Hudkeshwar and Ajni areas were bottling duplicate IMFL liquor and the same was being passed off with prominent brands. Gotmare then kept a strict vigil on the movements of some suspicious persons. On Sunday, Gotmare and his team nabbed Shende. They took him into custody after duplicate Royal Stag whisky bottles were recovered from his Honda Activa (MH-49/AM-3990). During his house search, they found stock of duplicate liquor sealed in the bottles of prominent brands Imperial Blue, Royal Stag, Officers Choice, and Mcdowell No 1. They also found duplicate bottle caps and labels.

Similarly, the team arrested Darote and raided his house. The team recovered 1434 bottles each containing 180 ML duplicate liquor and seized a Mahindra Scorpio car used by the gang for transporting illicit liquor to Wardha district.
An offence under Sections 55(a)(d)(e)(f),81 and 83 of Maharashtra Prohibition Act has been registered against the two gang members.

The arrests were made made by Inspector Gotmare, Inspector (II) Chandu Darode, constables Dhawal Tijare, Vinod Dumbre, Sudhir Mankar, Reshma Matey, Sameer Sayeed and Shirish Deshmukh under the supervision of Divisional Deputy Commissioner (State Excise) Usha Verma, Superintendent Swati Kakde and Deputy Superintendent Milind Patwardhan.
