Gambling den busted, 27 arrested

SPECIAL Squad of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone IV) Nilesh Bharne raided a gambling den at Fulsingh Naik Krida Mandir near Chhota Tajbag at Raghuji Nagar in Sakkardara area and caught 27 gamblers, inluding the office-bearers of the organisation, red-handed on Monday. Cops seized Rs 1,48, 130, one four-wheeler and four two-wheelers.

The accused have been identified as Board of Directors of Fulsingh Naik Krida Mandir Rajesh Dayaram Kadu, Raju Sahadeo Chahande (Both Presidents), Suryakant Chaurasia (Secretary), Damodar Kuhikar (Treasurer), and Kishna Domaji Nikhare (Member), Bhagwanji Aamge, Manoj Jain, and 20 others other.

The organisation has a card room and playing games like rummy, carrom, and bridge was allowed. However, gambling was prohibited.

DCP Bharne got information that people visit the place only for gambling. His squad raided the place and caught the gamblers red-handed.

Gamblers used to collect tokens and coins from paan kiosk owner Bhagwanji Aagme after depositing the cash with him. After gambling, the winners again used to deposit the coins and token with Aagwe and collect cash. Even meals were being served to the gamblers at the card room and they used to stay at the club throughout the night. Most of the accused arrested were not the members of the club.

An offence under relevant sections of the Gambling Act has been registered against the accused persons at Sakkardara Police Station.

Similarly, the DCP’s Squad also raided another gambling den at Dharmatma Club at Ganar’s old building at Untkhana in Imambada area and caught12 persons red-handed while gambling on cards.
