Under ambitious road development and concretization programme in the orange city, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) will be constructing cement roads from Zero Miles to Maruti Automotive on Kamptee road and Zero Miles to Khapri Railway Over Bridge (RoB). The NHAI has undertaken four projects in the city and later these projects will be handed over to Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) for maintenance.

The proposal of Public Works Department of NMC will be tabled in the general body meeting slated on March 20. As per the proposal, the NHAI will develop a flyover from Hotel Pride to Ajni Square to Manish Nagar which will be a Railway Over Bridge (RoB) and Kadbi Square to Automotive Square level - I fly over and hand it over to NMC.

It may be mentioned that Central Government is improving road network all over the country including Nagpur. Union Minister for Road Transport and Shipping Nitin Gadkari has given the task of overall development of the city to NHAI. Gadkari is planning to construct maximum cement roads in the city to reduce the maintenance cost. The inner ring road is already under cement road improvisation scheme. NHAI is providing funds under Central Road Funds (CRF) to the Maharashtra Government. It has taken several schemes under its umbrella for the development of second capital of Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, the civic body will also discuss the promotion of non-motorised transport in the meeting. The Transport Department has suggested public bicycle sharing scheme in the city. It will appoint a contractor for the scheme to promote non polluted means of transport. The process will be based on dockless bike share system. This system will not require a docking station, the bicycles can be parked within a defined area.
