PSO blindly opens fire on villagers, shoots self

Personal Security officer (PSO) of former district president of Rajnandgaon, Dinesh Gandhi, shot four people and injured them seriously before killing self with his pistol. The accused has been identified as Pokhram Chandravanshi. The incident occurred in Sambalpur village, situated under Dondilohara developmental block. According to police, accused, Pokharam was mentally unstable from last few days. However, his condition worsened on last Sunday and his friends Poshan Soni, Vikram Soni, Vishal Soni and Sashi Soni from Dongargaon decided to take him for treatment to an occultist in Balod district. They were traveling in a rented Bolero and just about when they reached Sambalpur, Pokharam took out his liscensed Pistol and threatened the driver to stop the vehicle. The driver ran away in fear after stopping the vehicle. Pokharam also threatened his friends, and they too ran away abandoning him in vehicle. Thereafter accused Pokharan ran towards village and started firing indiscriminately.

The bullet hit Dulesh Nai who was out to relieve himself. After that the accused started knocking the doors randomly and broke open the door of Manoj Kumar’s house and shot him as well. Luckily, bullet just hit his thumb and he was able to dodge the second bullet. Then the accused mindlessly shot at Manoj kumar’s mother Yasoda Bai and his father-in-law. At the end Pokharan killed himself. Virendra Ajnabi, a person who witnessed everything said that the accused was alive for few minutes after shooting himself and was mumbling mindlessly about killing someone. Police reached the spot after getting the news and admitted the injured in Dondi-Lohara hospital, for treatment. Though, the injured villagers are reported out of danger accused handravanshi succumbed to bullet injury.

SHO of Dondilohara, R S Sinha said that “amongst the injured, conditions of three people were critical and they were immediately referred to Rajnandgaon from where they were later sent to Raipur”. Three people who were shifted to Raipur are Yasoda Bai (50), Mohan Das(65) and
Manoj Kumar (25). Police have seized the pistol and has started further investigation.
