Only 8 to 10 states have high petrol, diesel rates than MP, says Malaiya

Finance Minister Jayant Malaiya said that cess imposed on petrol and diesel will be used for road construction work in Madhya Pradesh. Through this cess, State will get revenue of only Rs 250 crore. There are only eight or ten states where petrol diesel rates, per litre, are more than Madhya Pradesh. Malaiya was speaking on the discussion related to budgetary demands of his departments in the House on Tuesday. He added that liquor ban in State could not be made successful by closing wine shops simultaneously. It is only through phased manner that liquor ban could be achieved. Moreover, as many as 100 help desks have been established across State to solve Goods and Services Tax (GST) related problems. After implementation of GST, 2,66,746 traders have been migrated into GST. Apart from this, 1.10 lakh new businessmen have been registered in GST. There has been rise of 41.24 per cent in indirect tax payers. For the facility of businessmen, turn over limit for composition businessmen has been increased to Rs 50 lakh.


Government has also done away with 3 per cent and 5 per cent development cess taken on sell of forest produce inside and outside State respectively. The income limit of professional tax has been increased. Talking on demands related to Excise Department, Malaiya said that in year 2018-19, 149 wine shops situated till the distance of 50 meter from girls school, college, hostels and religious places would be shutdown from April 1, 2018. In year 2017-18, as many as 66 wine shops situated till distance of 5 km in cities nestled on banks of Narmada river have been closed. Apart from this, transportation of more than 50 liter illegal wine has been made non-bailable offence. Through Excise, state receives revenue of Rs 8,000 crore. He also spoke on Registration Department. After this, budgetary demands of more than Rs 16,000 crore were approved with voice votes.
