Variation in GST rates may have adverse effects in future: ANMF

MEMBERS of Aam Nagrik Mitra Foundation (ANMF) expressed their concern over variation in GST rates which may cause adverse effects in coming years. They expressed the need of implementing single GST rate by gradually removing several rates for convenience of consumers. A delegation of Mitra Foundation interacted with GST Commissioner P K Agrawal and submitted a memorandum addressing the Central Government to take necessary initiatives in this regard.
Dr P G Najpande informed that GST was introduced after combining 17 taxes and 23 sub-taxes in the country but consumers are yet to get its benefits due to variations in GST rates. Consumers are yet to understand varying GST rates and paying the price fixed by traders.

Hearing the demand, GST Commissioner P K Agrawal assured the members to forward their demand before the Central Government for further consideration in this regard.
During the meeting, Mitra Foundation members Rajat Bhargava, Anil Pachori, Dr M A Khan, D R Lakhera, Rammilan Sharma informed that the country has a majority of population living below poverty line and expressed need to ease purchasing policy for them.
