THE decision of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) to pull out of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government is nothing but pressure tactics and an attempt to assert its own political power in the newly created State. For the records the decision to withdraw from the NDA Government at the Centre is in protest against the alleged failure of the Centre to announce a special package for Andhra Pradesh. But at the same time party supremo and Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Mr. Chandra Babu Naidu has stopped short of severing ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), thereby keeping the doors for future bargaining open. This is a clear indication of every party getting into electoral hard bargaining for next year’s general elections. Otherwise the willingness of the Union Finance Minister Mr. Arun Jaitley to offer the same amount of support to the new State as applicable under special package should have been accepted by Mr. Naidu and not embarrass the Central Government. This is all about building political pressure and gain advantageous mileage.
