State Congress In-charge P L Punia along with Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CPCC) President Bhupesh Baghel and other senior Congress leaders participated in a hunger strike in front of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi located at Town Hall, Collectorate Garden, on Monday. On the call of All India Congress Committee (AICC), a day-long fast was organised by the CPCC to promote social harmony in the wake of caste violence reported during the ‘Bharat bandh’ on April 2. The Congress organised a nationwide fast programme to protect and promote communal harmony across the nation.


CPCC Working President Dr Shiv Kumar Dahariya, Abhanpur MLA Dhanendra Sahu, Mohammad Akbar, MLA Mohan Markam, Karuna Shukla, Narayan Kurre, Raipur District Congress Committee (Urban) President Vikas Upadhyay, Shailesh Nitin Trivedi, Kuldeep Juneja, Vikas Tiwari, Ghanshyam Raju Tiwari, Dhananjay Singh Thakur and other leaders participated in the fast programme. AICC Secretary for Chhattisgarh Chandan Yadav participated in the fast programme in Bilaspur.
