Congress observes day-long fast to protest Govt’s discriminatory policies

Workers of Congress Party observed a day-long fast to protest against discriminatory policies being pursued by Central and State Governments.


The agitation call was given by All India Congress Committee (AICC) and in city it was held under banner of Nagpur City and Nagpur Rural units. Presidents of respective units Vikas Thakre and Rajendra led the workers during the sit-in.


Senior party leader and Member of AICC Vilas Muttemwar, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) office-bearers Dr Babanrao Taywade and Atul Londhe, local leaders Umakant Agnihotri, Anantrao Gharad, Atul Kotecha, MLA Sunil Kedar, All India Youth Congress Secretary Bunty Shelke, Vishal Muttemwar, and many others observed fast.


Addressing the party workers, Vilas Muttemwar claimed that due to faulty policies of Centre and State Government, the communal atmosphere in country is under threat. On April 2, a countrywide bandh call was given but due to alleged interference by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Governments, at many places incidents of violence occurred. At many places incidents of communal riots have occurred in the country and role of BJP leaders has been clearly established in the same. This showcase that in run upto 2019 elections BJP leadership is trying to create a divide in society.


To fight against the divisive acts of ruling BJP Government, Congress Party cannot ignore it and hence the agitation. Workers of Congress Party need to be more vigilant to foil any attempts to disrupt social cohesiveness and peaceful atmosphere in society, said Muttemwar. Other leaders who participated in the fast included Sunita Gawande, Harshawardhan Nikose, Sheikh Hussain, Pradnya Badwaik, Ramgovind Khobragade, Naresh Gawande, Bandopant Tembhurne, Annaji Raut, Mujib Pathan, Prashant Dhawad, Kundatai Raut, Sandeep Sahare, Harshala Sable, Nirmala Borkar and many others.
