Despite its poor condition, people’s faith in Narmada persists’

“The pledge taken 20 years ago at Circuit house Mandla that would make Parikrama of holy river Narmada finally gets accomplished at the Barman Ghat having traveled for six month and 10 days. The credit for having accomplished the parikrama owes to Shankracharya Swami Swaroopananad”, said Digvijay Singh former Chief Minister Madhya Pradesh and senior Congress leader on the culmination of his 192th day of Narmada Parikrama. The yatra concluded on Monday at Barman ghat of Narsinghpur. A large number of congress leaders from the State and also sitting BJP MLA and MP attended the occasion.About the 192 days Narmada Parikrama of Digvijay Singh former CM Madhya Pradesh and senior Congress leader and his wife Amrita Singh and co travelers having covered 3325 kilometers finally concluded on Monday at Barman Ghat. A large number of congress leaders from Madhya Pradesh along with host of BJP leaders participated in the ritual performed by the congress leaders at Barman ghat.

At Barman Ghat the congress leader did not articulate on any political issue but expressed his gratitude for Shankracharya Swami Swaroopananad, Devprabhakar Shashtri and fellow travelers. He however expressed deep anguish on the present status of the holy river. Said the uninterrupted illegal excavation of the river bank by sand mafia has made the river to suffer to the highest level. The construction of four dams has badly affected the flow of the river the river is found parched at several locations. The faith of people for the holy river remains intact despite the fast diminishing river.Kamalnath former union minister said the yatra taken up by Digvijay Singh, his wife and other members of the team is highly commendable. Referring toplantation drive carried out by state government under the leadership of CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, he said while on way to was eager to count the number of plants but was disappointed.

At Barman ghat host of eminent reached the spot to be part of the ritual performed by the Singh couple. Among present were Shankracharya Swaroopanand Swaraswati, Devprabhakar Shashtri, film personality Ashutosh Rana, former union minister Kamanath, Suresh Pachouri, Kantilal Bhuria, Rameshwar Neekhra, Vivek Tanka, Arun Yadav President MPCC, Meenakshi Natrajan, Ajay Singh leader opposition MP Assembly, Deepak Bawariya AICC general secretary. Apart from the congress leaders other present were MP Damoh Prahalad Singh Patel, Jalam Singh Patel minister MP Government MLA Tendukheda Sanjay Sharma and others.It is informed that Amrita Singh wife of congress leader in course of the Yatra has prepared a documentary on the holy river and has expressed her deep concern on the present condition of the holy river. The eight minute documentary by Amrita Singh depicts the desolate condition of the holy river.Responding to media person at Barman he distanced himself from any political issues. On being asked about projection of CM for Madhya Pradesh he said there is no dispute in this regard. Our sole objective is to win the assembly election. On the issue of his role for the forth coming state assembly elections, Singh said his role would get decided by congress president Rahul Gandhi.
