Enthusiasts book Melghat ‘machaans’ online in one hour

Melghat Tiger Reserve, Katepurna and Dnyanganga Wildlife Sanctuaries will see a surge of wildlife enthusiasts from all over the country on April 30 for Buddha Pournima Waterhole Machaan ‘Nisarg Anubhav’ activity. All the machaans (wooden structures) were booked within one hour of opening of online bookings.


The authorities opened online bookings on Monday at 3 pm and by 4 pm all machaans of Melghat Tiger Reserve were booked by the wildlife lovers while a few bookings remained in Dnyanganga sanctuary till filing the report.


This year the number of wooden structures at waterholes has been reduced to only 380 in Melghat reserve from 450 last year. Animal sightings have improved all across the forest due to enhanced protection measures and tourist facilities in the park. A fee of Rs 1500 has been levied per person for ‘Nisarg Anubhav’ activity that includes snacks, lunch, dinner and drinking water. They will also receive caps, recently published Melghat Coffee Table Book and a tourist manual. Each participant will get a certificate from Forest Department for taking part in the activity, informed M S Reddy, Chief Conservator of Forest and Field Director, Melghat Tiger Reserve.
