Special Correspondent,

Cracking whip against the schools for unauthorised construction of their buildings, Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) has issued notices to 71 schools in its areas for its regularisation. The NMRDA has also requested Education Department to reject the approval of these schools from new academic year, if they fail to apply for regularisation of their buildings.

Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawakunle while talking to mediapersons on Monday said, several schools in Nagpur city and district do not have proper approach roads, their buildings are not authorised and they do not even have occupancy certificates. Private vehicles of the students, teachers, and buses parked on the road create traffic chaos. Referring to the recent accident at Podar International School in Besa, Bawankule said, “Administration has taken this incident seriously and has decided to issue notices to the schools for regularisation. It is the responsibility of the school management to provide parking space to the buses and students. The Government may consider to increase their Floor Space Index (FSI) to create space for the parking.”

The Minister has directed NMRDA and Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to issue notices to the defaulter school managements. He also suggested underground parking in the school, if space is not available.

Dr Deepak Mhaisekar, Metropolitan Commissioner said, the NMRDA has issued notices to 71 schools including Podar International School, Besa and also approached Education Department to reject the permission of 19 schools, if they failed to regularize their buildings. “We will also issue notices to hospitals, hostels and all illegal constructions in NMRDA areas,” he added.
