Staff Reporter,

By Tuesday out of selected 5,357 students, 3,433 confirmed the admission. Considering the non-fulfillment of target, Education Department has extended the date of confirming the admissions in schools under Right to Education Act (RTE) to April 13. The department on April 4 had extended the date to April 10.

The process of lottery draw and the selection of schools for the first round was held in March. Accordingly, the schools were allotted to students. Parents of the selected students were given ten days to visit the school and they were asked to submit the required documents and confirm the admission in the allotted schools. The response from the students was poor for so many reasons. Some parents were unhappy as they did not get the schools they opted for due to which they did not turn up. So the education department extended the date.

To ensure that the students should get schools close to their homes, education department started a new system this year wherein the first round is focused on selecting students in schools within 1 km of their homes. Despite this, it has been noticed that the parents failed to visit the school and confirm their admissions. The education department decided to give them some more time and extended the deadline till April 10 and further it is extended to April 13.
Under the first lucky draw the education department had selected 5,357 students.
