Cong disrupting Parliament functioning, stoking communal sentiments: BJP leaders

Observing a day-long fast on Thursday as part of nation-wide programme of the party, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and workers at Samvidhan Square here flayed Congress party for disrupting Parliament functioning and also disturbing communal harmony by inciting sections of the society.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi had urged all BJP Members of Parliament and legislators across the country to observe day-long fast on Thursday and ‘expose the people who throttled democracy’ by creating a logjam during budget session of Parliament. Accordingly, in front of the statue of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar here, BJP leaders and workers led by Dr Vikas Mahatme, Rajya Sabha Member, observed fast.
The BJP leaders garlanded the portraits of Bharat Mata, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, Dr Shyamaprasad Mookerji, and Pt Deendayal Upadhyay. Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Guardian Minister of district; Ajay Sancheti, former MP; Prof Anil Sole and Girish Vyas, MLCs; Sudhakar Kohale, MLA and BJP city unit President; Sudhakar Deshmukh, Dr Milind Mane, Vikas Kumbhare, all of them MLAs, were present prominently on the occasion.

Addressing the party office-bearers and workers, who were present in big numbers, BJP leaders flayed Congress party for ‘killing’ Democracy by disrupting functioning of Parliament. “Congress is doing this purposely as it failed to come to power in 2014 general elections. It does not want the nation to move forward and hence it is creating disruptions in Parliament and also disturbing communal harmony,” said Dr Mahatme. Sancheti also flayed Congress party for creating a logjam and alleged that it did not want to participate in a healthy debate in Parliament. Other speakers alleged that most incidents of atrocities on Dalits had taken place during Congress rule. They said, as Congress did not have any constructive agenda for development of the nation, it was stoking communal sentiments.


BJP workers raised various slogans including ‘Sansad Bachao, Desh Bachao’, ‘Sansad Chalno Do, Desh Heet Mein Kaam Karo’ etc.
The day-long fast ended with Sudhakar Deshmukh offering ‘sherbet’ to Dr Vikas Mahatme, who led the programme.
