Chetak Bridge construction results into traffic chaos

ONGOING construction work at Chetak Bridge area created traffic chaos on Friday. One side land of the bridge was closed for five hours due to which, the traffic was affected badly. Railway has started to widen the bridge and girder is being placed at the railway portion. As traffic diversion was imposed in the area, people queued at the road for hours. All city buses asked passengers to step down at Board Office Square instead of nearby areas.

The bridge is being widened by 7.5 meter. Public Works and Department (PWD) has completed its part of construction now railway is continuing construction of its portion. On Friday morning, railway started three girder placements at the Rachna Nagar end point. Girders were being set up in presence of senior railway officials. Total 12 girders will be placed in the area out of which 12 girder do not need traffic block. During the five hours block, railway traffic was also affected.

As traffic was blocked at the Chetak Bridge, chaos was created at DRM office road and Vir Savarkar Setu. Only emergency vehicles were allowed to pass through the bridge. ISBT bus route was also changed which bothered the passenger. “Every day I step down at Chetak Bridge bus stop but on Friday I had to step down at Board office. I walked for few meters even after getting late for coaching class,” said Pooja Mishra, a student. It may be mentioned that railway has started construction to widen the bridge which will be facilitating the passers at large. Construction of the bridge was started on March second week. A letter has been also sent to the traffic police department for route diversion and traffic control.
