‘Rs 100 crore for new road in front of Railway station’

The ‘design disaster’ flyover in front of Railway Station will be demolished and a new road will be constructed in its place at the cost of Rs 100 crore. Central Government will provide funds for construction of new road using the latest technology.
The announcement was made during a function organised to mark inauguration of Mankapur underpass at the hands of Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister, on Saturday. The 265 metres long and 2.5 metres high underpass has been constructed at Om Nagar railway crossing at the cost of Rs 19 crore.


Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, presided over the function. Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Guardian Minister of district; Dr Vikas Mahatme, Rajya Sabha Member; Nanda Jichkar, Mayor; Nisha Sawarkar, President of Zilla Parishad; Sudhakar Deshmukh, Sudhakar Kohale, Dr Milind Mane, MLAs; Virendra Kukreja, Chairman of Standing Committee of Nagpur Municipal Corporation; Sushama Chaudhary, Sandeep Jadhav, Gargi Chopda, Pramila Mathrani; M Chandrasekhar, Chief Engineer of National Highway Authority of India, also graced the occasion.


Fadnavis said that Nagpur was changing at a fast pace with infrastructure development. Increase in industrial investment would make available more employment opportunities. As far as Mankapur underpass was concerned, he said that it would provide a great relief to people who were facing inconvenience due to railway flyover.


Gadkari spoke on Metro Rail work of Rs 9,000 crore, expansion of industrial area in Butibori and Hingna, around 10,000 housing units under construction for homeless etc. To ensure that Nagpur Railway Station became world-class, the flyover in front of it would be demolished and a new road would be constructed, he added. The investment scenario for MIHAN also was looking better, he said. Renuka Deshkar conducted the programme.
