Anganbadi workers continue strike, take out massive rally

Anganbadi workers and assistant continue their hunger strike to press their six-point demands in the state capital here. It may be mention that the initiative has been taken by protestors, when Directorate Woman and Child Development refused to consider their demands and appealed them to call-off strike immediately. To intensify their agitation members took out massive rally from Idhgabata.Chhattisgarh Jujharo Anganbadi Kalyan Sangh District president Bhuneshwari Tiwari said that departmental officials came to dharna venue and threatened that strike by anganwadi workers can take recourse to law for the revocation of suspension order and against newly-appointed anganwadi workers and helpers (saikas). She said that officials informed that giving the status of State Government employees to the anganwadi workers and sahikas it is related to the national- level directives hence it is beyond the powers of the samiti and the State Government.

Meanwhile official sources of Directorate of Woman and Child Development informed that the authorities have decided to pay Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 to the retiring anganwadi workers and helpers from the current fiscal. Regarding the demand of anganwadi workers to be promoted as supervisors, the delegation was informed that the post falls under the Grade-III of the State Government and only seniority and adequate educational qualifications will make them eligible.
