Four coaches of Katni-Chopan train derail, 3 injured

THREE people, including guard of a passenger train, were injured after four coaches of Katni-Chopan passenger train number 51675 down, derailed at 10 pm on Saturday between Salhana and Piparia Kalan railway stations on Katni-Singrauli section of Jabalpur division. No casualty was reported in the incident. Derailment of four coaches including SLR of train 51675 Katni-Chopan passenger caused panic but immediate attention from the railway administration brought the situation under control. Traffic on Katni-Singrauli section remained affected and was restored by 3 pm on Sunday. Due to traffic disruption, Jabalpur bound Howrah-Jabalpur Shaktipunj Express was diverted from Chunar-Cheoki route.
The injured, including two passengers and a train guard, were admitted to Katni Railway Hospital. Soon after the mishap was reported, the railway administration swung into action and started rescue and relief work. Accident Relief Medical Train from New Katni Junction reached the site and a relief train was also dispatched from Jabalpur.


Rescue and relief work commenced within an hour of the accident. Senior officers and supervisors of Jabalpur division also reached the site immediately to take stock of the situation. Under rescue operation, all stranded passengers were sent to their respective destinations by road in buses arranged by the railway administration. Helpline numbers were set up and operational at Katni (07622-297468) and Jabalpur (0761-2677640). Ex-gratia of Rs 5,000 has been given to both the injured passengers. Chief Spokesperson of WCR Gunjan Gupta, when contacted, informed that, three people including the train guard on duty, were wounded and were given proper treatment at Katni Railway Hospital. Due to the mishap, some trains on the route were short terminated, while some were diverted. Traffic on the section was restored on Sunday afternoon. Probe has been ordered by the railway administration to ascertain the cause behind the mishap.
